Fluoride treatments for stronger teeth
Steele Creek Smiles offers fluoride treatments to our patients to prevent tooth decay. The ADA recommends fluoride for children and infants between 6 months and 16 years old. This is the time when primary and permanent tooth development takes place.
Fluoride varnish is applied using a toothbrush. Fluoride makes the teeth more resistant to decay-causing sugars and plaque. It can also accelerate remineralisation and disrupt acid erosion.
Fluoride can also be applied through fluoridated mouthwashes and toothpaste. Fluoride mouth rinses in lower concentrations are available on the market. Stronger mouth rinses may be prescribed if necessary. Dr. Bajaj can advise you on your child’s needs for fluoride.

Dr. Bajaj journey into the world of dentistry was driven by a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others. His empathetic nature and fun personality allow him to connect with his patients on a personal level ensuring that they feel comfortable and at ease during their dental visits. He takes the time to listen to their concerns and is always willing to go the extra mile to provide the highest level of care.
Known to some as “The Dancing Dentist”, Dr. Bajaj prides himself in incorporating his love for dance, music and creativity into his practice. As a result, he attracts and connects with all ages. On any given day the music in his office ranges from the world of Disney to special requests by his patients. His social media presence has afforded him the opportunity to speak at various events and share his love for dentistry that he developed back in the 3rd grade. Dr. Bajaj has traveled the world and provided care to those who are less fortunate on numerous occasions.

Why do children need fluoride?
Fluoride is an important mineral for all children. Our mouths contain bacteria that combine with sugars in the foods we eat and the beverages we drink. The acid that is produced harms tooth enamel and damages teeth. Fluoride protects teeth by making them more resistant to acid and can even help reverse early signs of decay.
What fluoride treatments does a dentist’s office use?
Dentist offices apply fluoride treatments to your teeth as a gel or varnish. The difference between fluoride treatments at our office and the fluoride in your toothpaste is that professional-grade treatments have higher concentrations of fluoride in them.
How often does my child need fluoride varnish on their teeth?
Your child’s dentist may recommend fluoride varnish two to four times per year. It will depend on how likely your child is to get a cavity as to the number of times a fluoride varnish will be applied.
Why is fluoride used in dental treatments?
Fluoride can prevent tooth decay by shoring up the outer layer of your teeth’s enamel. It helps the healthy buildup of minerals on your teeth while making them more resistant to acids.
Are fluoride treatments safe?
Absolutely yes. They are safe when administered properly.
The main concern for dentists and dental hygienists is ingesting too much concentrated fluoride. As part of a fluoride treatment, a dental hygienist will use a saliva ejector (the suction tube we put in your mouth during dental treatments) to make sure you or your child doesn’t swallow much of the fluoride treatment.
